ABOUT THE COURSEDomestic Violence in Divorce and Family Mediation is a comprehensive 2-day, CLE-approved mediation training seminar that will focus on the unique challenges of mediating cases where domestic violence is or has been present. Individuals who complete this course will satisfy the domestic violence training requirements of the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution and will meet the statutory requirements regarding the mediation of cases involving domestic violence (See ALA CODE § 6-6-20). Participants who complete the course will satisfy the training requirement necessary to be listed as "Domestic Violence Trained" on the Alabama state court mediator roster maintained by the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution. 

AGENDA The class will meet from 8:30 am -- 5:00 pm each day. There will be a 1-hour lunch break each day from approximately 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm. Lunch is on your own.

CLE and OTHER PROFESSIONAL CREDIT This course is approved for 14 hours of CLE credit (including 1 ethics) hours in Alabama. We will report your attendance at the seminar within 7 days of completion.

Do you need CLE credit in another state? Our seminars have been CLE-approved since 1995 in every state in which our programs have been offered. Course participants have also received CLE credit in their home states after attending one of our training programs out-of-state. If you have questions about CLE status in your state, contact us at registration@mediationmedia.com. Mediation Media will report CLE attendance in Alabama. Participants will need to self-report their attendance for other states.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course is open to anyone interested in learning about mediating cases where domestic violence exists. There is no pre-requisite to attend but we recommend that participants complete a 40-hour divorce mediation course prior to this program or be registered to attend our 40-hour divorce mediation seminar within 6 months of this program.  For a schedule of upcoming courses, visit www.mediationmedia.com. 

COURSE DESIGN Our training philosophy -- Minimal lecture; informative, engaging interaction! Those five words describe the practical, hands-on approach of our training programs. In addition to learning mediation principles, you will have an opportunity to practice your new mediation skills at the seminar in a comfortable, non-threatening learning environment. Mediation simulations, small and large group discussions, media presentations, and meaningful group exercises will enhance your learning experience. And, you'll receive feedback and performance improvement suggestions in a fun and challenging setting.

Nearly every mediation training seminar we present sells out. We encourage you to register early so that you can get a seat in the course that is most convenient for you.

FACULTY Troy Smith, JD began mediating in 1992 and has been a mediation trainer for over 18 years. Over 3000 mediators have completed his training programs nationwide. Sarah (Sally) Clark Bowers, JD, LCSW is a mediator, attorney, collaborative law practitioner and licensed clinical social worker. Sally has practiced law in Alabama for nearly 30 years and has extensive experience in all areas of family law including divorce, dependency, post-divorce and child advocacy. Full Refund. Your seminar fee is fully refundable if you cancel your registration 10 or more business days prior to the first day of the seminar. All cancellations must be received in writing or via email.

Reschedule Anytime. If you must reschedule your attendance at a seminar ~ even at the last minute -- you may transfer your registration to another equally priced seminar within 24 months of the date of your original program. All reschedule requests must be in writing and received prior to the start of the seminar. (No-shows will not be eligible to reschedule).

Substitutions. If you are unable to attend a seminar for which you have registered, you may send a substitute in your place. If you need to send a substitute, we ask that you notify us at least 1 day in advance of your seminar, if possible.

Event Cancellation. In the highly unlikely event that Mediation Media, Inc. must cancel or reschedule a program for which you are registered for any reason, we will refund your registration fees or transfer your registration to another program, whichever you choose. Mediation Media, Inc. is not responsible for participant expenses related to a program cancellation.
